Embekke Devalaya is wooden temple,situated in Embekke village.Just 3km from Peradeniya Botanical Garden.It was built by the King Vikramabahu iii of Gampola era.Embekke Devalaya dedicated to Kataragama Deviyo.There are 3 sections in shrine,the “Sanctum of Garagha”,”Digg” or “Dancing Hall” & the “Hevisi Mandapaya” or the “Drummer’s Hall.” The attention of the visitors go to the Drummer’s Hall because of the glorious wood carvings of it high pitch roof & ornate pillars.16 wooden pillars grace the entrance of this devalaya & the motives that decorate the pillars & the develaya soldiers,dark in maidens,even mermaid & drawings of animals such as lions,bulls,elephants and also part of the finally details the wood work of the devalaya.
